Walking in Morocco in the High Atlas Mountains is a rewarding experience especially when you make it to the summit of Mount Toubkal. In summer it is a so called walking mountain; just a good condition and a good spirit will do. In winter time with snow high up in the mountains more mountaineering experience is needed. Departure any day you like. Tour starts from Marrakech with a private transfer (1h30) to the Atlas mountains.

Transfer to the mountains (ca. 1h30) to start your trekking. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel.
Trekking Imlil (1740m.) – refuge du Toubkal (3200m.).
Today it’s only going up. The path is clear and easy walking. You pass by the pilgrimage spot of Sidi Chamarouch. And then finally you will see the mountain hut.
Walking about 5 hrs. Overnight stay: Neltner Mountain hut ‚Refuge du Toubkal‘. Altitude: 3.200m. / 10.499 ft.
Refuge du Toubkal (3200m.) to the summit (4.167m. / 13.671 ft).
Today is the day. You will start very early in the morning (< 06h00) as this makes the chance for great views the best. In the beginning the path is steep. Later on it’s getting easier but then you will feel the altitude. Breath taking. Sometimes causing some headache or nausea. You can take some ‚paracetamol‘ with you. And the most important advise: just walk slowly. It is the best way to acclimatize. Walking up to the summit takes about 4 hours. Going down to the hut ca. 2,5 hrs.
Walking ca. 6,5 hrs. Overnight stay: Neltner mountain hut ‚Refuge du Toubkal‘. Altitude: 3.200m./ 10.499 ft.
For walkers with an ‚easy way of going down hill‘ there is the possibility to go down upto Aremd (1.900m). Total walking ca. 8 to 10 hours!
Descent to Imlil (1740m.) – transfer back to Marrakech. If you like you can make an extra climb in the morning to the high pass Tizi Ouanoums (3.685m.) for a nice view on mountain lake “Lac d’Ifni” , far below. Extra: about 2,5 hrs up and 1 hour down. Otherwise it will be just a relaxing day going down and enjoying your success of summiting the highest mountain of North Africa. In Imlil your transport is waiting to bring you back to Marrakech. Walking ca. 5 hours. Transfer 1h.15min.
End of the trip!
If you like we can arrange your stay in a nice small Riad hotel in the Marrakech Medina. So you can enjoy the gathering on Jeema el Fna with all the artists and food stalls in the evening. Marrakech. Altitude: 450m. / 1.467 ft.
