  • M’Goun & Aït Bougmez – from May to October we walk in the eastern High Atlas towards the green valley of the Aït Bougmez.
  • Berber people live in a remote and fruitful area with plenty of small water streams.

Day 1Day 1 - Hiking M’Goun

Transfer to Abachkou (1650m./5.413 ft) + start trekking to Rougoult

A minibus takes us east to Azilal (170 km./105 mi.) where a curling mountain road is leading us 40 km./24 mi. further to the remote mountain village of Abachkou. Here we meet our ‘équipe local’ with mules and their drivers for transporting luggage and camping gear. We start our walking slowly and we will end up near the small village of Rougoult. During the day there is .. a nice picnic ‘on the road’.

Walking: 4 – 5 hrs.

Day 2Day 2 - Hiking M’Goun

Trekking Rougoult (1900m.) – Idoughmamen (2500m.)

Today we walk up to the high pass Tziz Rougoult (2860m.) with opens the view over the valley of Tassaout. We walk over a high route with splendid views over the valley. At the low end of the pass Tizi Ousaderm we make our ‘bivaque’ not far from the river Tassaout.

Walking 5 hrs.In the afternoon there is time to visit the ‘gorges’.

Day 3Day 3 - Hiking M’Goun

Trekking Idoughamem (2500m) – Plateau Targdit (2900m.)

We slowly walk up to the pass over a mule track. On top a beautiful view over the canyon and the colorful valley of Amezri. We walk in a landscape full of Karst and lonely nomad people are living here in summer in their dark brown tents from camelhair. Walking 5 hrs.

Day 4Day 4 - Hiking M’Goun

Trekking Targdid (2900m) – Irghil M’Goun (4.068m.) – Oulilimt (2.700m.)

Today we go up the holy mountain. We start early in the morning to have best chances for great views. Going down we take another trail to end up further east on the plateau near the sources of the M’goun river.

Day 5Day 5 - Hiking M’Goun

Trekking Oulilimt (2700m) – Agouti (1700m)

Today after a small warming up we go over the first pass Tizi N’Ougmar (2850m.) Then there is another pass Tizi–n-Aït Bouilli (2900m.) before we go down in the gorges of Arous. Through this beautiful valley we pass by herding settlements before we end up in the villages of Aït Saïd, Arous en Agouti. We end up our trekking in the valley of Aït Bougoumez where we sleep in a Berber guesthouse (with a shower!) in the middle of ‘La vallée des heureux’.

Walking 6 hours.

Day 6Day 6 - Hiking M’Goun

Transfer back to Marrakech

In the beginning of the afternoon you will be back in your nice Riad hotel in the old city centre of Marrakech – the medina. In the evening enjoy the gathering on Jeema el Fna with all the artists and food stalls.

  • Extra nights in a small Riad hotel in Marrakech: double room € 50, – per night, single room € 40,-
